now here i am a young 33 year old guy i run i play sports i eat healthy had acute appendicitis and needed to get my appendix out and i think everything's fine i walk in for my follow-up appointment within the span of 10 minutes i find out i have a rare cancer called a neuroendocrine tumor it's really scary to hear the word cancer i lost my own father to cancer so i reached out to mayo clinic and from there the process was really easy we're gonna fly to mayo clinic and we're gonna get some answers ryan was a patient that i met in concert with tim hobday one of our medical oncologists and he has a very rare tumor called in a penicill neuroendocrine tumor it's a specific cell in the gi tract which becomes abnormal there are a few subsets that can be very aggressive and of course that's the one that we really worry about you know he's starting a young family so again there's a lot of considerations that he had to take into account so both tim and i laid that out for him and then collectively we made a good choice a reasonable decision for colectomy having a plan knowing that we're going to be getting the best care possible gave us tremendous amount of peace of mind the outcome's you know perfect that's what we hope for every patient and his likelihood of recurrence is really quite small and the irony of this entire situation is i work at premise health we provide primary care a variety of other services to self-funded employers across the country i've been working with mayo clinic for the past two years the partnership between premise health and mayo clinic ties together high quality primary care with high quality specialty care in a way that's not happening right now in the health care system and it's allowing people who have complex and serious care needs to have a seamless end-to-end experience and those are not just words i lived it and it works it feels like we have gone through a lot to get here now but but now it feels like we can we can move forward and put this behind us you
